Crash Bash is a party video game released by Midway Games in 1998 for the PlayStation. It was later ported to the Sega Saturn and PC. Crash Bash's gameplay is a typical party game, where players compete in a variety of games to see who can accumulate a higher score. Like most Party video games, players must find an object that will activate an end-game skill or cheat, usually marked by light "powerup" symbols seen throughout the level. Crash Bash's goal is not unlike its namesake: it seeks destruction of other players' play areas through "crashing" into them at high speed with their vehicle (usually collected over time) while avoiding crashing into anything else onscreen at all costs. While players cannot physically damage each other with crashes (something that may be desirable for many players), if a player's vehicle is destroyed, it is lost, with the ending ending cutscene showing the player's character in bed in their home with a fever and a blanket covering them with a "Game Over" message. Crash Bash has five single-player and six multiplayer modes: Crash Bash includes many different vehicles and special moves to make it more interesting. It also includes mini-games such as Breakout, Pipe Dream and Drop That Beat Like Mine. In addition to the main mode of Crash Bash, there are several minigames included. The minigames range from three-legged races to hockey games. When a minigame is completed, a player's vehicle's speed is upgraded. While the Saturn and PC versions had multiplayer modes, the Playstation version of the game did not have it. However, a multiplayer mode was planned to be added for both versions before it was cancelled. In addition, after the release of "Crash Bash" on the PlayStation 2 in 2003, several people who had either registered or were members of Midway's mailing list received a code for a free copy of the original Crash Bash on their new system. In 1999, Midway released a "Crash Bash" special edition that came with a CD soundtrack, an exclusive mini-game called "Left Me Breathless" and two postcards. "Crash Bash" has received mostly positive reviews. IGN gave the game a rating of 7.6 out of 10. GameSpy gave the game a rating of 9 out of 10 commenting on how it's "a blast to play".The music for Crash Bash was composed by John Kurzweg and Dalton Maag, while the music for other Midway games was composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (as he had done for other Midway games such as "Speedball 2", "Hydra"). Crash Bash was also known for its "Rally Ambition" track which was used in the Gamestop commercial that aired during the "NBA on NBC" coverage on October 9, 1998. Midway later successfully sued developer Totally Games over their use of Crash Bash name for their 2004 game "Crash Nitro Kart". Totally Games replied with a countersuit against Midway seeking unspecified damages. The case was settled out of court in mid-2005 without any details being released to the public.Citations Sources Retrieved from "https://web.archive.org/web/20070724143118/http://www.bbc.co. cfa1e77820
